Explore The Wildlife of Northern Vancouver Island

Evening Wildlife Viewing Tours

Set off into the evening light from Hardy Bay off of Northern Vancouver Island. Search for sea otters, humpback whales, orcas, Dalls’ porpoises, Pacific white-sided dolphins, Steller sea lions, bald eagles and a multitude of sea birds. Satiate the soul in the days fading light and return to land with a renewed appreciation for our natural world.

Our 3 – 3 1/2 hour tour brings guests into traditional waters of the Kwakwaka’wakw people in search of wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for signs of marine mammals as we fly along the water in our zodiac vessel Big Red. Our guides are well acquainted with the local waters and the best places to see wildlife, however animal encounters cannot be guaranteed. Should guests require a more in depth experience, the longer 5 ½ to 6 hour Sea Otter and Whale Watching tour may be a consideration.

  • Tours depart from Coastal Rainforest Safari’s office at 7185 Market Street in Port Hardy, BC on Northern Vancouver Island.
  • Please arrive 30 minutes before the tour’s departure time to be outfitted in floater suits and sign a waiver. At the office, your guide will provide a safety briefing plus an overview of the tour and area we will be exploring. The boat is docked a short one minute walk from our office.
  • The open zodiac style vessel has comfortable bench seating and has a small on-board toilet.

Port Hardy Whale Watching and Sea Otter Viewing Tours

We are located in Port Hardy at the north end of Vancouver Island.

Seeing minke whales are sometimes rare, but it sure is exciting when spotted! The areas we explore are very remote and unpopulated with boats and people, love it! #coastalrainforestsafaris #crs #safetrueeducational #gonorthisland #minkewhale #remoteness ...
